Any Social Organisation intending to
carry on with the upliftment of the society, helping the
poor and the needy, reaching to the under-privileged group
have to generate funds in case they are very serious about
their activities. The fund raising is an art by itself and
highly motivated and dedicated people of the organisation
/ Society put up their wholehearted efforts to create such
funds.
The idea of having a sort of a society
to help the poor and less privileged persons of our community,
extending help in the job opportunities, providing some
moral support to the young people who come all the way from
southern districts for the seafarer's job in Mumbai was
mooted out by few of the senior people way back in sixties
and seventies. This activity was restricted to a small group
of people, who raised funds by means of enrolling the membership
of the paravar community persons in erstwhile Bombay. It
was only during the year 2000, this activity was accelerated
with the emergence of the Mumbai Paravar Sangam. Periodically
the enthusiastic members assembled to discuss and evaluate
on the ways and means of generating funds for the upliftment
of our community people in Mumbai. During that time number
of energetic youngsters took initiatives and made serious
efforts to give a new image to the Sangam.
As a first step a new membership drive was
initiated and the Paravar community people in Mumbai were
identified and request to enroll themselves as Members of
the Mumbai Paravar Sangam with a Life Membership Fee of
Rs. 101.00. In addition, elites of our community were also
approached to provide financially support to this noble
cause and it is worthwhile to mention that they all came
out generously to contribute to the Paravar Sangam. Subsequently,
an idea was mooted out to get all our community people assembled
in a function on 15th August 2002 to celebrate "Feast
of Our Lady of Snows", the patron symbol of the fishermen.
It was also decided to come out with a "Souvenir"
on that occasion. Advertisements were invited from the general
public, especially from the Paravar community people from
all through South to be incorporated in the Souvenir. The
response was very encouraging and the function was a thumping
success. The trend continued and with the induction of new
office-bearers and highly motivated souls it was vowed to
celebrate the feast on 15th August 2003 in a grand scale.
The whole-hearted support of the President of the Mumbai
Paravar Sangam, Mr. Albert Rayen, a renowned industrialist,
needs special mention. The revenue collected from the advertisements
and other donations were overwhelming.
Apart from this fund generated there
are number of sponsors for the various expenses during the
festival celebration. The expenses towards the invitees
from outstations, a portion of the catering side and other
meritorious Prizes to the wards of the Paravar community
were all sponsored voluntarily. Sangam proposes to continue
with the way and means of fund raising in a more dedicated
way. Tasks with the Sangam are enormous and the goals can
not be achieved without the everyone's active involvement.
Through this message we wish to convey to the cohesive paravar
community people throughout India and every nook and corner
of the world to extend their support to Mumbai Paravar Sangam.
